This is a crazy theory of two British scientists. The comet tchouri (Churyumov-Gerasimenko) would host living micro-organisms on its surface a “crust” that covers black ice. Such a discovery, if proved, would confirm the theory that says that comets are the source of life on Earth.
tchouri would be populated by microorganisms
micro living organisms on tchouri comet? This is what would tend to prove the latest data collected by Rosetta and Philae and returned to Earth. The geological characteristics of the comet would be compatible with life. These data show that the surface of tchouri a “crust” black covering of ice, would be rich in complex organic materials. In addition, the last shots distinguish craters that could be covered with frozen water, itself covered by a layer of organic debris.
It does not need more of Max Willis Cardiff University and the director of the Astrobiology Centre Buckingham, Chandra Wickramasinghe, to show that life in the form of microorganisms exist well on the comet. Willis stated: “Rosetta has already shown that the comet was not to be considered a very cold and inactive body but it was the seat of geological phenomena and may be more hospitable to microorganisms that Arctic and Antarctica “.
A subject that is already debate
The scientific community is quite divided on the subject and it will not take long that the theory of two British researchers is undermined. “All measurements on comets made by Rosetta or Earth-based telescopes can be explained by chemical and physical processes much simpler by involving extraterrestrial life” has expressed Professor Alan Fitzsimmons, a specialist in the Queens University of Belfast.
One theory all the more difficult to prove because neither nor Rosetta Philae are equipped to search for life on the comet.
