on the occasion of the presentation of its report this year Friday, April 8, 2016, the CNIL stated officially against installing backdoors, called backdoors. They represent a terminal access to the authorities without the consent of the user. Always in search of the protection of consumer privacy, the CNIL is firmly opposed to the establishment of these backdoors.

The backdoors are requested to manufacturers by many countries, and allow, in certain cases, including criminal investigations to have access to suspicious devices. The most recent case concerns the brand at Apple who declined to give access to the iPhone 5C of one of the authors of the massacre of San Bernardino. Apple strongly opposed to opening backdoors and the FBI turned to a third party company to hack the iPhone in question and access data from the perpetrator.

Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin, president of the Commission Nationale Informatique et Libertés strongly opposed to opening backdoors in mobile terminals indicating when presenting the annual report of the CNIL on April 8 that these backdoors have too many risks to individual freedoms. Since the revelations made by Edward Snowden, a former NSA agent, backdoors are at the heart of the storm. Since these revelations, many companies have set up data encryption devices for the latter are inviolable.

The CNIL very clearly advocate for the encryption of personal data. It indicates that this technology is necessary to ensure the right to privacy and is positioned as an essential element to ensure the right to privacy of individuals. CNIL said that data encryption helps “protect people and their privacy, to guarantee their fundamental rights. Encryption is a vital part of our security that helps protect information systems. It contributes to the strength of our digital economy and helps promote the growth of the digital economy. “
