USB Type C: a new certification for more security – Generation NT

The USB Implementers Forum has been an opportunity to propose a new certification for manufacturers, in particular to limit the spread of such defective USB cables C.

Several accidents or cases have already been held with center of interest of the C-USB cables that do not charge the devices overheating or result to permanent damage. As many cases that plague the technology in question, which could have been avoided if the prescribed safety standards had been harshest

Various solutions are debated, but d them has received more attention in trade: implanting a microchip in cables called USB Type-C Authentication Specification

the chip would store and data on the product. manufacturer model, certifications, target market. The chip would communicate with the device to which it is connected and the latter could then verify that the connection corresponds to a protocol that it manages. If the cable and shows credentials, transfers can take place, otherwise, its use will be locked.

The system would lead to a change in manufacturing process manufacturers, but a simple update of the side PC or other devices with a compatible port. However, the question of the price of these cables that could skyrocket.
