Gooligan has infected more than a million Google accounts – Le Journal du Geek

A malware affecting Android is full phase of propagation. Check Point, a company specializing in computer security, was called “Gooligan” and it affects more than a million of Google accounts.

This malware has a peculiarity : its goal is not necessarily to rot the life of the user, but to improve the ranking of certain applications on the Play Store. Once installed in the smartphone of a victim, it will quietly download apps (sound) from the official store of Google without the knowledge of the user, of course, and leave a note of 5 star rating.

A highly profitable

according To Google, this malware is not accessed or the files present in the smartphone, and not to the e-mails. However, once installed, Gooligan would be able to compromise the Google account of the user, including Gmail, Drive and Photos, is concerned that Check Point.

This malware exploits a vulnerability present in versions 4 and 5 of Android (so Jelly Bean, Kit Kat and Lollipop), and infection is rapid : the virus spreads at the speed of 13 000 devices each day, especially those in Asia for the time being. It travels by way of applications downloaded from the boutiques of third-party apps. Apps carriers range from simple games (Slots Mania) software less recommendable (Sex Photo)…
