6 million now eligible housing in fiber optics in France – Le Berry Républicain

(Relaxnews) – March 31, 2016, France had 4.5 million Internet subscriptions at very high speed, 1.6 million jobs via optical fiber, according to the Observatory of the market for fixed services high and very high speed Q1 2016 published by the regulatory Authority for electronic communications and posts (ARCEP).

The number of very high speed internet subscriptions has increased by 35% in one year and those to the optical fiber by 53% over the same period. In France, high-speed broadband is a maximum download speed greater than or equal to 30 Mbps.

Meanwhile, the number of broadband subscriptions (less than 30 Mbit / s), totaled 22.6 million at quarter end, down by 255,000 in one year. This nevertheless represents 83% of the total number of high and very high speed subscriptions in France.

In all, the number of subscriptions to high and very high-speed fixed therefore reached 27.1 million (+ 3.4% in one year).

According to the observatory, some 14.8 million units were eligible in late March 2016 at very high speed (up 9% year on year), of which 6 million via an offer fiber optic network from end to end (FttH) . French operators also accelerate the deployment of these networks, up 37% in a year.

Among the 6 million homes, 2.4 million are outside very dense areas and 850,000 are eligible through public initiative networks (PINs). Note that the FTTH deployments in less dense areas (255,000) were higher in very dense areas (149,000). ARCEP also specifies that at least two operators are able to market offers very high speed optical fiber in 60% of eligible housing in FttH.
