Lisa march towards the future of astronomy – Le Figaro

Lisa Pathfinder has shown that one can study gravitational waves from space.

Two short months. It did not take more time for the European satellite Lisa Pathfinder to demonstrate that the technology needed to build a space telescope capable of observing gravitational waves were already ripe.

The gravitational waves, observed for the first time in February by detectors on Earth are small waves of space-time formed by extremely energetic events such as merging black holes or explosions of stars. These waves which travel at the speed of light, vibrate space-time as a jelly. Their passage is thus (very, very slightly) oscillate distances between objects.
