Many of the 10 million mobile operator’s subscribers were unreachable for a little over a half hour for some reason.
Free mobile subscribers had to face a failure affecting their operator Sunday morning for a little over a half hour for the majority. If they could make calls and be contacted via SMS, it was however impossible to join them, any attempt referring to a type of error message: “The number you have called is not assigned”. The mobile data connection has also been affected by the problem for some users.
While Free mobile has, as always in this type of situation, no statement on the reasons, scope and resources allocated to the management of the problem, it is the social networks that allow to take the measure of the failure. Thus the wave of tweets it has deployed between 10 and 11:30, basically. Although with more than 10 million subscribers to its mobile telephony offer, one that has long been considered the market troublemaker is now a well established actor. And more than anyone, it is scrutinized closely.
Remember also that five years after the authorization has been assigned by Arcep and three years after the launch of its mobile telephony offer, Free Mobile had welcomed it well covered 78% of the population with its own network. The challenge now lies around 3G or even 4G. The operator is indeed within the scope of an obligation 3G deployment scheduled for January 12, 2018, when he will have to cover at least 90% of the population. As for 4G, he explained early April its intention to continue its investments to cover about 60% of the population in 4G end of 2015.
