Cartography: Apple buys Coherent Navigation – Clubic.com

Apple confirmed it has completed a new acquisition. The members of the company Coherent Navigation join teams of Cupertino and should work on implementation plans.

Apple is increasing its efforts in the field of mapping and expanding its teams to each new acquisition. In recent years, the Cupertino company has completed the acquisition of Pin Drop, Locationary, WifiSLAM, HopStop, Embark or Broadmap, in addition to Poly9 and Placebase. Apple confirmed the hosting team of Coherent Navigation.

Founded in 2008, the company has worked on a technology called iGPS (High Integrity GPS) combining traditional GPS signals to those of the satellite fleet Iridium positioned at low altitude. This would result in a very precise geolocation whose radius is measured in centimeters.

According to the specialized site MacRumors, who reported information, the CEO of Coherent Navigation Paul Lego joined Apple in January. The two co-founders William Bencze and Brett Ledvina joined him last month.

So Apple wants to forget these setbacks and take revenge against its competitors, including Google. When the Google Maps application is back in the App Store, the application has recorded only 10 million downloads in 48 hours.

Recently, Apple filed a patent describing a GPS device with instructions through a natural language with more visual cues and understandable for the driver
