Adblock – European mobile operators could soon declare war on advertising on tablets and smartphones.
According to a source in the Financial Times, several European operators were preparing to block them from their servers advertisements displayed by Google as governed.
The operators have installed in their data centers blockers advertisements. This is the Shine Israeli company giving the software. According to the Financial Times, one of the leaders of European operators have confirmed that his company and others have plans to block advertising this year.
This option will be offered to the users of their networks by opt-in mode. This system would block ads on web pages and in applications but not those of social networks like Facebook. Google is the main target.
In 2013, Free had already made a showdown with Google by blocking advertising from its servers but had later backtracked. It is once again sharing revenue from advertising that is at stake.
The operators believe that companies like Google should participate in financing the networks. The Shine Marketing Manager expects 10 million users worldwide will opt to block the pub before the end of the year.
With this kind of process Net neutrality is obviously questioned. Operators must process the data on their networks fairly without blocking the particular stream. The opt-in could prevent operators to violate net neutrality and go through the European Commission box.
In addition to the net neutrality problem, we must not forget that many sites do not receive any aid or subsidy. They live only through advertising. No ads, no income and therefore fewer sites and information diversity. This is a question to ponder.
