Once again, the famous Google’s operating system for mobile phones, Android, faces significant security vulnerabilities. This time, it comes to threats that operate through “Remote Assistance” applications that can be found on the phones, which are commonly used to troubleshoot users with simplified access to the unit.

This is the company Check Point Software Technologies, a specialist in Internet security and networks which revealed this new threat. Indeed, it has presented the new fault during the Black Hat conference currently taking place in Las Vegas, US.
From the name of “Certified-gate”, this security flaw would, if exploited, to discreetly access personal data of the holder of the device. In this way, hackers could then gain access to the phone, and locate, for example, record telephone conversations at the expense of the user by activating the microphone.
As revealed Check Point Software Technologies, the problem of these applications is that they are pre-installed on mobile phones, so the security hole is already present at the first startup of the unit. Because they are particularly vulnerable because of limited security, they allow hackers to operate more easily.
There are fortunately a solution against these new vulnerabilities : update of Android. The problem however is that it is a relatively long update, but necessary to fight this flaw in the operating system. Google also wishes to advise that it is not competent to decide on system updates. These are indeed controlled by the mobile phone manufacturers: Samsung, HTC, LG, sometimes even by telephone operators. Google and Samsung announced the establishment of a security patch, which should pave the way for other manufacturers.
