Apple Music approximates Spotify. According to “Financial Times”, the music streaming service launched by the firm at the apple has exceeded 10 million paying subscribers. Launched in June in more than 100 countries, Apple Music claimed 6.5 million subscribers late October and had already exceeded Deezer.
Group of Cupertino is far from Spotify – the number one valued $ 8 billion industry – which claimed 20 million paying subscribers at last count in June. This figure should probably be higher today.
With the launch of its service, Apple Music objective was to regain ground lost to competitors like the Swedish group, while the Cupertino company had bet on the paid download with its platform iTunes launched in 2003.
One third of the US market
In the United United, streaming is indeed becoming the dominant form of music consumption: the album downloads were down 9% in 2014, and sales of pieces in unit 12%, according to Nielsen. But demand via streaming services increased by over 50%, with 164 billion listened songs.
In the first seven months of 2015, revenues generated by streaming the United States totaled $ 1.03 billion – an up 23.3% year on year – according to data from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The support represents one third of musical income from the other side of the Atlantic.
Deezer postpones its IPO
download still represents 40% of the sector but fell by 3.6 % year on year, to $ 1.27 billion, and is in a downtrend. Despite this momentum, several renowned streaming platforms already installed or have difficulty keep level in a very competitive sector.
This is the case of French Deezer (6.3 million subscribers, but only 3 million are actually active) which has indefinitely postponed its IPO in October. In another, Tidal, launched by singer Jay Z hip hop, claims his side one million subscribers but changed CEOs twice in eight short months.
