Skybender: Google wants to deploy 5G via a fleet of drones – Clubic

Google is starting to make new solar powered UAV tests at the space center in New Mexico.

In recent months, Google would set up a new secret project called Skybender. The latter aims to build several prototypes of transceivers positioned on various drones. The Guardian, which reports information, said Google is currently 1.4 km 2 in a terminal hangar Gateway to Space built by Richard Foster for space flight Virgin Galactic.

SkyBender aims to test transmissions in the spectrum of radio waves with a length of one millimeter. In theory, these high-frequency waves can reach a speed of several Gb / s and are grafted on the next generation of mobile phone standards: the 5G

The flow so obtained would be about 40 times. Quick as a 4G network and Google have plans to build autonomous drones and position them almost everywhere around the world. One of them could well allow a remote area to be connected to the Internet. However, the signal range is 10 times less than for a 4G antenna.

To extend this reach, Google then plancherait on a phased array or a group of elementary antennas fed with signals whose phase is adjusted to obtain a higher radiation pattern ..

Skybender naturally from the acquisition of Titan Aerospace conducted in April 2014. The company specializes in the design of UAVs operating solar and Google had also outpaced Facebook in this acquisition.

The FCC, the overseas communications regulator has given the green light to Google to continue testing until in July. Recall that Google also has its Loon project to inflate the balloons with helium shipping the necessary equipment to broadcast radio signals towards the ground or other balloons nearby.
