Note 7 : Samsung wants to disable them remotely in the US, Verizon refuses – ZDNet France

First addicted to size to the strategy of Samsung to make it unusable to the latest Galaxy Note 7 in circulation. Recall that to avoid a new incident or a casualty, the group does everything to retrieve the Note 7 already sold.

To not take any chances, deactivations in distance are therefore operated. After New Zealand and Australia from the 15th of December, the giant intends to conduct a similar operation in the United States (there would still be 7% Note 7-outstanding, the rest having been reported for exchange or refund).

Concretely, the world number one has close to the mobile operators ‘ premises in order to prevent the Note 7 connect to their respective networks, for voice or data.

But across the Atlantic, things do not go as planned, Verizon, one of the main operators in the country, denies the request of Samsung. “We don’t want to make it impossible to contact the family, first aid, or medical professionals in an emergency situation,” noted the operator in a press release. The world number one has not yet reacted officially to the refusal.

Samsung has promised to deliver before the end of the year, an explanation clear about the Galaxy Note 7 of which the battery has a tendency to overheat and ignite. Meanwhile, independent engineers also looked into this matter and communicate today conclusions. They seem to confirm the first few tracks : know that the battery is not the only cause.

We are facing a combination of factors : the battery has been made dangerous because of the design “aggressive” of the smartphone. By “aggressive” means “too late”. In this race to the fineness (the Note is only 7.9 mm thick), Samsung might be going too far as the chassis would place pressure on the battery, all the more that the compartment that receives the battery has been reduced to the maximum.
