Blocks: Modular shows is revealed in detail on Kickstarter – Frandroid

As expected last week, shows the modular Blocks entered on Kickstarter. The project, which started yesterday and exceeded 250 thousand dollars requested in the late afternoon is already funded. The launch of the campaign also serves to learn a little more about this shows that we hear about in almost two years and which finally seems to materialize.

Blocks

The watch Blocks, as proposed on Kickstarter, therefore offers its support a central unit (the “heart” ) in the form of a module housing a screen, and associates a number of modules. Blocks evokes an open platform, likely based on Android, and powered by a Snapdragon 400 combined with 512 MB of RAM, like watches in Android Wear. The module offers a round screen of 1.35 inch (360 x 360 pixels), a battery of 400 mAh, a 4 GB storage space, and a microphone, an accelerometer, a gyroscope and a vibrator. It is compatible with automatic WiFi 802.11 b / g / n and Bluetooth 4.1 with, and can connect to as a terminal Android as an iPhone. Everything is certified IP67 and damage, is available in black plastic, gray or red, while it was expected instead to the metal.

More interesting than the heart of the watch, the modules can be associated with it. The latter, which can be changed at hot and are designed to be recognized immediately, are provided in packs of four. Blocks indeed indicates that according to his calculations, a wrist with a circumference exceeds 15 cm can be used at least 4 modules when smaller wrists should rather use 3.

For its launch, customers of the firm may choose from an extra battery, a heart rate sensor, a GPS, an “adventure” NFC chip and a module for measuring the altitude, pressure and temperature. In the near future, Blocks provides a SIM card reader, a fingerprint sensor, an LED and a programmable button when the more distant future could see happen an air quality sensor, camera or even flash memory. Blocks, which is reassuring, evokes 1500 registered developers to create modules … but says his MDK (Module Developers Kit) is not yet available. Either.

watch Blocks fundraising campaign will end on November 20th, for delivery from the May 2016. A sufficient period of time, hopefully, for the community dedicated to the creation module snaps into place and for Blocks ahead of the ideas put forward for months, as its declination watch in an e-Ink screen version. Everything will still cost $ 195 for a version with only one screen module and a silicone strap, and will be charged between 250 and 285 dollars for his milling combining a display and four modules, each additional element adding 30 dollars total. When he left, the pack will cost 400 dollars.
