Windows 10 – Pubs in the Start menu? No, “suggestions” for apps – ZDNet France

With Windows 10, Microsoft has made the choice for individuals free Windows 7 and Windows 8 – at least for one year from July 29. This does not mean that the publisher waives any monetization of its OS.

Microsoft account and, in particular, indirect benefits related to the integration of online services like Bing and Cortana. But the company apparently also exploring other avenues whose display content from the Start menu – revamped in Windows 10.

The latest version of Windows 10 – build 10565 – available the time for testers Insider program and introduced the “advertisement” directly within the interface, from the Start.

It should be noted that this is no advertisements Conventional which users are accustomed to the sites and free online services on the Web. In Windows 10, Microsoft and disseminates “suggestions” related to applications available on the Windows Store.

The display such content is more discreet than for conventional advertisements. This could still be perceived as undesirable. It is not usual effect of directly exploiting the interface of an OS to promote content.

Conscious possible inconvenience for users, Microsoft has provided for the possibility of disable this feature – enabled by default though. Contacted by The Inquirer, the Redmond company assures to have no intention of broadcast advertising in Windows 10.

These “suggestions” are not advertising for Microsoft , which specifies that application vendors do not pay to appear in the Start menu of the operating system. Microsoft initially hoped to publicize apps to users, provide visibility to developers, and develop its Store.
