More than 7 tons of cannabis seized in Paris, no arrest – Le Parisien

18 Oct. 2015, 12:26 | Update: 18 Oct. 2015, 1:06 p.m.

Customs seized last night about 7.1 tons of cannabis resin on board three vehicles parked in the sixteenth arrondissement of Paris, said Sunday a source close to the matter, confirming a report by BFMTV.

This is the biggest catch in France for two years.

This seizure in the night from Saturday to Sunday, is the result of an investigation by the National Directorate of Intelligence and Customs Investigations (DNRED), added the source, who said that no one had been arrested. The survey was conducted following several catches since the late summer of 320 kg of cannabis resin in early September in Bayonne, 193 kg in Rouen on October 7, etc.

. three vehicles were parked along a boulevard sixteenth arrondissement. There was no one on board.

+ 80% of cannabis seizures in 2014

This is probably the biggest catch ever made Paris itself, the source said. Although cannabis use is illegal, the French are the first European consumer according to figures from the EMCDDA (European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction).

In 2014, French customs have thus increased by more than 80% of cannabis seizures (herb and resin combined) compared to the previous year. A total of 157.3 tons of cannabis were intercepted in mainland France and in territories overseas, against 40-80 tonnes depending on the year since 1995.
