What dream Airbus engineers? A supersonic aircraft capable of linking Paris to San Francisco in just three hours (over eleven against today) to believe a patent filed in mid-July by two companies in the aerospace group – EADS Astrium and France – with the US Office patents and trademarks.
The invention is described as y “ultra-fast air vehicle ” capable of reaching Mach 4.5, nearly 5500 km / h, “twice as fast as the Concorde” , the European supersonic aircraft abandoned in 2003. The machine has three separate propulsion systems: two turbojet engines for maneuvering and take-off runway, a “rocket engine” allowing the aircraft to perform an almost vertical climb (up to an altitude of about 35 kilometers, more than three times those of current airliners) and two ramjet then taking over for catapult aircraft at supersonic speed on a horizontal trajectory.
The many schemes in support of the patent show an apparatus devoid of classic and featuring wings, instead, a triangular wing placed -Dessus the fuselage. The blogger Deepark Gupta, one of the first to have spotted the patent filing describes how the project It’s not rocket in a video posted on Youtube late July:
This is not the first time since the withdrawal of Airbus Concorde Group (formerly EADS) is interested in supersonic aircraft line. In 2011 was presented the “Zhest” project at Paris Air Show, airplane fuel revolutionary concept to a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen and displaying zero CO2 emissions. In recent years, with a lot of futuristic designs, Boeing and Lockheed Martin have touted similar projects. The European Space Agency, meanwhile, has engulfed squarely in the realm of hypersonic (over 6150 km / h) with the “Waverider” and “A2″ (see our slideshow).
According to Les Echos , Airbus is also considering a military version of the machine. But nothing says that the two cuckoos will one day flight.
