Google Maps is probably the most used mapping application in the world. Faced with the shortcomings of Apple’s maps, the application has even managed to get a place among iOS device users. She had, at least so far, a major drawback: its inability to be available in off-line mode

For accuracy, it must be noted that an off-line mode was available on <. strong> Google Maps . However, he was more than limited. Only part of a region could be available when the user had no internet connection on his smartphone. Google has chosen to address this gap. The giant had already made a demo of this feature in May at the Google I / O., But it is now officially launched for Android.

Download the map of a country not get lost

Now, you can download maps of countries through the application Maps of the Mountain View giant. A search for a region or country will display this option. Obviously, this download will occupy the smartphone storage space.

Important information available, even offline

It is interesting to note that the offline version of application keeps more maps, important information about places, such as opening hours or coordinated shops for example. The application will also be able to get offline automatically when the internet connection is not stable . However, to receive information on traffic conditions, you will always be online.

A lesson learned from Nokia?

Google Maps is not the first service Mapping to offer the download maps for offline access. Here, Nokia had already put forward this feature to stand out from its competitors. With the new feature, Google is expected to earn points for travelers and those who may not have Internet access on their smartphones.

The offline option is now available on Android device users . The arrival of the functionality on iOS should no longer delay. Google does, however, give any indication about this feature as expected.
