The consumption data via a mobile in France has almost doubled in a year and now exceeds one gigabyte (GB) per month in 2015 to active clients on the Internet, according to the digital barometer presented Friday by the Regulatory Authority telecom (ARCEP) and the General Council of the economy (CGE).
This increase in mobile internet usage is mainly due to the sharp rise in the level of equipment of the French in smartphones now held by 58% of respondents, but also tablets, which are found in the hands of 35% of respondents.
If, in general, the level of equipment in phone Mobile tends to stabilize at 92% of the population over 12 years against 90% in 2014, it exceeded for the first time in the landline, down one point to 89%.
The tablet, which had seen its penetration rate almost doubled between 2013 and 2014, sees his slow curve slightly with an increase of 6 points in one year, to 35%.
Among the uses of mobile French, the Internet consultation is the first activity, 52% of them before the consultation emails (45%) and downloading application (44%), while VoIP is used only by 17% of respondents.
Generally, all mobile usage is experiencing very strong growth of around 8 to 10 points, between 2014 and 2015.
Not surprisingly, this increase hides a very strong disparity of uses for all ages, with 90% of 18-24 year olds who use their smartphone to surf the web against only about 15% of 70 and over.
More broadly, if 86% of French people regularly surf the internet, fixed and mobile, which places France at the top of the European average (76%), it concerns almost all 12-29 years ( 98-100%) against only 38% of 70 and over and still 76% of 60-69 years.
The study also distinguishes a change Internet usages based on diplomas since only 44% of non-graduates go on the canvas when almost all university graduates use it.
If the mobile Internet is now widely entered the uses, it goes no even for the use of home automation or digital books, which are only used by, respectively, 6% and 8% of respondents.
This fifth survey, conducted by the Research Centre for Study and Observation of Living Conditions (CREDOC), was conducted in face-to-face interviews with a sample of 2209 people representative of the French population aged 12 and over, by the quota method.
