Android Wear 1.4: Google announces new features – 01net

This is a new development that arrives with version 1.4 of Android Wear. Earlier this week, Google announced that its OS dedicated to connected watches is now compatible with cellular connections including giving birth to the LG Watch Urbane Second Edition, integrating a 4G chip. It is now time to take stock of new features.

Switch calls from the watch

One of the main innovations regarding the possibility to take a call directly from the watch. Obviously for it will require that the watch includes a speaker, microphone in addition to that already used for interactions with Google Now.
In addition to this function MINI Handsfree wrist, the new version of Android Wear would also read aloud the various notifications (statement of the name of the caller, appointments, etc.), the hour or SMS bearer of the watch. This function called “audio feedback” in Google documents would, for example, to exchange SMS, full voice.
Also note that the built-in speaker allows to “play sounds” for notifications … times that of current watches vibrations are not enough. If these functions are announced as very successful, they may well revise downward the autonomy of these watches which is already the main problem. For now, only the LG Watch Urbane Second Edition would support these new features. But they should quickly be applied to Huawei and Motorola watches.

New orders gestural

Android 1.4 also adds support for new features related to the recognition of wrist movements, the more slower and sometimes repeated. For example, the ability to trigger the “application” menu by operating a quick flick of the wrist down, then gently up the dial, facing the user. Another example of rapid and repeated jerks of the wrist to return to the menu on the main screen of the watch: useful for not having to frantically slide his finger the screen to exit an application.
