Zive Fibre Box: The box for the SFR cable – Clubic

SFR launches new box available from 17 November. Billed as a “Fibre Box”, it is currently limited to eligible customers to the fiber with coaxial termination

And here is the “Fibre Box Zive”, the new flagship of SFR. – L do ‘call over Numericable-SFR, the ISP has decided to simplify its name after a year of transition following the acquisition by Altice. One thing has changed though: most of the Internet offers very high speed of this one is SFR cable (FTTLA) instead of fiber to the home (FTTH). Despite its name, Fibre Box Zive connects to the cable, not the fiber.

SFR box explains that a second, similar, will be available early 2016 for customers connected to the fiber . Yet the press release explains that the box has a “modem Fiber 1 Gb / s” , but most observers have noted the shift to the word “fiber”. The term here has more to marketing. At the back of the “Fibre Box”, you will find a cable outlet, but not the WAN port needed for the fiber.

FTTC for “Fiber to the client”

Why
communicate over the fiber while the telecoms regulator itself opposes the use of this term? Michel Combes, President of SFR, addressed the subject of himself, Monday, November 9, during his presentation: “We could talk for hours Parisian debate on FTTX, FTTZ … is laughable . SFR offers the FTTC, for “fiber to the customer” “ – What is wrong, because the final connection is made through the cable
Michel Combes has even shown vehement against. of his critics: “I respect only those who invest. “Enough to whistle the ears of Xavier Niel, who sued SFR this summer on the use of the term ” fiber “, it considers ” misleading “ . On deployments, SFR emphasizes that it has connected to the fiber 13 cities in two months, and that it was within its objectives to 12 million taken in 2017 and 22 million in 2022.

With these two technologies, we understands the will of SFR to communicate on a global offer instead of bringing its customers the fuzzy field of technology. “Our customers want the flow, not an acronym” insisted the leader. But how to explain to a client (Wired) “profane” it is limited to a upload 5 Mb / s (40 in the best case), while its neighbor, client (bundle) SFR, emits at 200 Mb / s?

Soon the 100 Mb / s upload

Things are better yet. In flow down the offer FTTLA SFR benefits from this update to spend up to 800 Mb / s to – soon – 1 Gb / s. As for the amount throughput, it should make a real leap forward, according to our information, reaching “rapidly” 100 Mb / s. If the Box Zive is now equipped with DOCSIS 3.0, it will adopt the DOSCSIS 3.1 in 2016, multiplying its potential.

certainly limited change in some major cities, which will involve renewing its box.

This standard already used by Monaco Telecom Comcast in the US Virgin UK or the UK should enable SFR to display a theoretical maximum throughput of 10 Gb / s in download and 1 Gb / s upload. However, it is very unlikely that this level of performance is immediately available

TV:. The undeniable strengths of the cable

If the fiber
until the subscriber is also able to reach such speeds, keeps the cable TV side benefits … that make it all the more surprising occultation. For that is the cable that allows you to watch two channels picture-in-picture , with a time of record zap (Quick’Zap) to transmit two or tablet PC, and still save two others, all this simultaneously. Features that would be too intensive for IPTV of the fiber (in multicast ), but supports the cable DVB-C (in broadcast ).

On Here again, distinguish fiber cable seems relevant to us. For when SFR dégainera its box dedicated to FTTH customers, it is very unlikely to succeed in the equipping of the above services. In terms of throughput as services, offer SFR fiber in 2016 will be more attractive with cable …
