NASA Pluto broadcasts high resolution images – The Point

A series of pictures to better understand the dwarf planet. NASA has released a new series of detailed pictures of the planet Pluto. “These new images breathtaking offer us a very high resolution on the geological composition of Pluto,” said Alan Stern, principal investigator of the New Horizon probe in a statement. The images released Friday have a resolution of 77 to 85 meters per pixel and form a sequence of more than 80 kilometers, by NASA. On July 14, the New Horizons probe NASA was the first spacecraft to pass through Pluto. Pluto High resolution images had already been published, revealing geographic diversity with high mountains, sand dunes and ice sheets.

“This level of quality was only possible after decades of overflights for Venus or Mars. For Pluto, we are already exploring the craters, mountains and ice fields, less than five months after the flyover! “Welcomed Alan Stern. “What we can do from a scientific point of view with these images is simply amazing,” he added. The New Horizons probe – the size of a grand piano – continues to transmit images and, given the mass of information collected, the transfer should last until the end of the year. In October, the data collected by the probe had revealed the blue sky of Pluto, and a rich variety of colors, dark and red zones from the equator to bright and blue regions at high latitudes.
