Google launches Duo, its video messaging on mobile, and discusses the future of Hangouts – Next INpact

Google has just launched its app Duo supposed tenors compete FaceTime and Skype, via broad compatibility. Officially launched today, it is not yet available in Hexgaone.

Google has officially launched its Duo messaging application on Android and iOS. The service is meant to compete directly with Skype and FaceTime Apple and Microsoft, by focusing on ease of use and compatibility with multiple systems.

It was presented in May at Google’s conference I / O, in addition to the IM Hello, who shall in turn compete iMessage (see our report). It should also be launched during the summer, the group announced in May.

Toc Toc unavailable on iOS

The application is as a list of contacts to call in support. Simplicity is especially the use of the telephone number instead of another account, which allows use with Duo everyone in the address book stored on the service. On this point, Google has learned from the success of other airlines operating this model, WhatsApp in mind.

The tool is based on WebRTC protocol, with some unique features. The main one is Toc Toc, which displays a video preview of the caller before the call is accepted. One possibility for the moment unavailable on iOS, which would not allow Google to provide this possibility, the company claims to Business Insider.

Like some of its competitors, it adjusts the video quality (up 720p) depending on the connection, and allows you to continue communication even changing network (Wi-Fi to the 4G for example). Discussions are encrypted end-to-end, also provides the Mountain View giant. Again, the approach is rare for the company, which generally has a right to examine communications it offers.

Hangouts will focus on companies

at Engadget, Google explains that parallel the integration of Hangouts to its Apps made the popular messaging service among professionals. “ It will be increasingly focused on this type of team collaboration within the business ,” said Nick Fox, vice president for communications products. It should still always be widely available to individuals, as is still Gchat in Gmail, though Google prefer surely push Allo and Duo mobile with them. A track for future Hangouts so.

According to our findings, Duo is not yet available in France, whether on Android or iOS. It is always possible to pre-register on the Play Store to be notified of the release on Android.
