The american publisher has officially presented its tool for team messaging. Called Microsoft Teams, the application is launched in pre-release.
last march, Techcrunch reported that Microsoft had planned to acquire Slack. But, according to our american counterparts, this project had not obtained sufficient support in the house to come to fruition. The CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, was among the skeptics. Just like Bill Gates, who would have rather pushed the alternative of a Skype-enriched and positioned in the competitor collaboration tool real time.
This is the way advocated by Bill Gates, who has been retained. After several months of rumor, the information is confirmed. Microsoft has built an application, based on Office 365, aimed at proposing an alternative to Slack. Called Microsoft Teams, it was unveiled on 2 November at a press conference in New York. It was launched for the occasion-release.
features that Slack does not offer
“We started from the observation that the world of work is evolving into a multiplicity of new practices of collaboration. This movement has been driven by a proliferation of channels of personal communication, with e-mail, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger… A single application collaborative is no longer enough,” explains Alexandre Cipriani, Product Marketing Manager Office 365 at Microsoft France. “We have started to focus on the enterprise social network with Yammer, and then on the notion of a group in the e-mail. Today, we are launching Microsoft Teams, which aims to meet the needs of collaborative real-time team business.”
The co-editing of document prompt in Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams lets you create threaded discussion topics (the equivalent of channels in Slack), via which it is possible to exchange, share documents, receive alerts or chat. Microsoft Teams has, also, features that Slack does not offer, including the ability to create sub-threads of conversation to comment on a posted message, for example. Another strong point of the solution is its integration with Office 365. An Office document (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, PowerBI, etc.) may be opened in Teams and co-edited several. The discussion thread, in this case remote on the right side of the window, becoming a space for exchange around the document in a manner that provides Salesforce with a Quip.
Another differentiating factor, the ranking information back to each user in the Teams will be personalized. And this, taking advantage of the history of work and collaboration (thanks to the Office Graph).
Skype for video conference, Planner for project management
Microsoft Teams backs on to OneDrive for sharing files, as well as the calendars of Office for sharing calendars. “The application also includes a Planner to manage the allocation and planning of tasks that can then be tracked and managed within the team via the discussion thread,” explains Alexandre Cipriani. As expected, the application of Team Messaging also draws benefit of Skype. “Thanks to this brick, Teams, allows, in parallel to the cat, to launch an audio or video conference with another person or a whole team”, underlines Alexandre Cipriani. And last but not least, the integration with Office gives at the outset, the application of the level of compliance of the suite (ISO 27001, ISO 27018…)
What about the integration to third-party applications and bots ? Microsoft knows that the war with the Slack (which displays 600 applications in its marketplace) will in a large part to play on this field. At the time of the launch of the pre-release Teams, the group claims, already, 150 third-party software integrated into the tool, or in the course of integration (including Hootsuite, Zendesk, Asana, for example). And this is also the case of bots. To inject agents conversational in Teams, Microsoft partners will be able to lean against the framework-oriented Bot editor (Microsoft Bot Framewok). To show the way, the group has also lifted the veil on two bots home : T-Bot (which helps to use of Teams) and WhoBot (to facilitate the research collaborator). “For the moment, Microsoft Teams do not embed the application buttons in its messages [thing that allows the Sack ed]. But we are actively working on the subject,” says Alexandre Cipriani.
The bot French MailClark soon integrated with the Microsoft Teams
By the launch of the final Teams announced for early 2016, the list of third-party applications integrated to the tool should be longer. For the time being limited to Slack, the bot French MailClark has entered into an agreement with Microsoft to provide its solution in the environment. “Our bot allows you to send and receive e-mails from Slack,” explains Antoine Lefeuvre, Cofounder & Product Manager of MailClark. “It introduces an entirely different experience of the mail, as a message passes through our bot may also be shared in real-time within a team.” For this project, MailClark precise work with a direct link to the Microsoft teams in the United States. “To achieve our gateway with Microsoft Teams, we will use the tool to bot multi-platform Message.io,” says Antoine Lefeuvre.
Microsoft plans to launch Microsoft Teams in the final version in early 2017. The tool will be integrated within the packages of Office 365 Business and Enterprise (Business Essentials, Business Premium, Enterprise E1, E3 and E5). The customers of these packages can now already is the enable for the test. The application is available for Windows, OS X, iOS, Android and Windows Phone.
