The Oculus Rift available for pre-order, from 599 dollars – The Echoes

The note is slightly saltier than expected, but there was more to discourage fans waiting impatiently since its release four years. Oculus Wednesday opened preorders for its augmented reality headset, the Rift, with an introductory price set at 599 dollars (555 euros). But for France, the amount rises to 699 euros, 42 euros plus postage.

In comparison, the first two development versions sold in 2013 and 2014 , were marketed around 300 to 350 dollars. Moreover, we still have a computer powerful enough to run the Rift that requires a specific configuration. Unless you opt for a computer Oculus Ready, marketed by the subsidiary Facebook. But it would then add about 1,000 dollars (930 euros). In that case, perhaps it is best to wait since February pack including helmet and the computer will be on sale, from 1,499 dollars (1,389 euros).

Available to buyers of the first development kit

The first deliveries will take place in May and pre-sales are limited to a helmet no one. However, the company ensures that the Rift will be available from March 28 in 20 countries, including France, and several outlets. The purchase of the helmet includes an Xbox One, sensor, microphone, cables and remote control required (the “Occulus Remote”). Two games (“Eve Valkyrie” and “Lucky’s Tale”) are provided. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, has promised that “more than 100 sets of virtual reality and other experiences will come this year.”

However, good news for those who have bought the first development kit (DK1) during the Kickstarter project Oculus announced that the final version would be offered. Surely a winning strategy over the long term, as these fans of the first hour, ready to invest several hundred dollars in a non-finalized version should be loyal customers. In addition, Palmer Luckey co-founded the company warned on Twitter: “virtual reality will become something that everyone else wants before something that everyone can have”

And it seems that the strategy works as the online sales site has undergone several bugs, probably due to too many people on the site. A reporter from Business Insider says it be repeated five times in order to order. The same experience has been described by a number of online
