Twitter announces the closure of Vine – ZDNet France

the End of the game to Vine. The service to create microvidéos of six seconds will soon be closed. The announcement fell yesterday, indicating that the mobile application Vine will be put out of service in the "next coming months" while the web site will remain active for an indefinite period in order to allow access to the archived videos.

Vine was acquired in 2012 by Twitter and has quickly established itself as the a precursor to an unseen format. As on YouTube, stars Vine emerge and the service has up to 200 million monthly users. But the competition was not slow to react, first with Instagram, which launched its own service of short videos from 2013 and then Snapchat that did the same over the last year.

No official reason was given to explain the closure of Vine. But we do know that the service has never developed a model of monetization and the growth of its audience seemed to mark time. and Especially, Twitter, which is currently going through a delicate phase, has just announced layoffs and decide to choice dramatic in its activities to try to find the path to profitability so that no buyer has expressed his interest. Vine has without doubt made the cost of this pragmatism. (Eureka Presse)
