Google Trusted Contacts : an application to reassure his loved ones – ZDNet France

In these troubled times, the giants of the Web are multiplying the initiatives to help the users in case of crisis. One can of course include Safety Check of Facebook. Note that it allows to know the members of your social network that you are safe, or that you know someone that you know is safe.

It has already been activated several times by the social network, especially after the attacks of Paris (5.4 million reports) and Brussels. In total, the device was activated 39 times in the world since its inception in 2014.

today, Google goes further with Trusted Contacts, which adds the brick location. Concretely, the application geolocates the user, and sends the information to its “circle of trust” (friends, family…) to reassure them. “Stay in touch with the people who are important to you, no matter what happens,” explains Google. This geo-location is optional, but it can be enabled by default after 5 minutes.

Google also highlights the possibility to be helped quickly : the “Share your location with a trusted contact if you do not feel safe, or if you want someone watching you”.
