Facebook has announced to propose a new way to secure his account for users who would like to be. It is thus now possible to associate its account to a specific USB key incorporating a key.
This system would replace then the two-factor authentication that is based on sending a verification code by SMS to the smartphone of the user. The latter would only have to connect the USB key which serves as sesame for access to the account.
The social network shows use this method internally to secure the data and the accounts of his collaborators, describing a very secure system that avoids any risk of attack of type “man in the middle”, and then that it is impossible to be positioned between the USB and the computer to intercept the data.
This type of security requires a USB U2F (Universal 2nd Factor) that can be found for a twenty euro and that will not only store data, but also to authenticate to Facebook and other services such as DropBox, Google, GitHub, FastMail, WordPress, and others who have already opted for this form of security.
