new name for a new start. By storing in the closet Internet Explorer, Microsoft starts with a clean sheet for the Windows browser 10. On Wednesday, the company revealed the official name of its “Project Spartan”: this will be Microsoft Edge. And beta (still under the name Spartan, for now), delivered with the new preview version of Windows 10 on Thursday, appears promising.

A modern look

joined Edge minimalism of Chrome and Safari. The design is very “flat” and fades to put the Web page forward. Launch, load … Everything is fast and it becomes hard to tell the difference between browsers when they have been installed. Afterwards, they all tend to slow down, particularly because of extensions (eh, Chrome), and it will see how Edge behaves in the long run.

The practice play mode

It already existed in Safari with a single click, Edge can extract the main section of a page to read an eBook much like without pollution pubs and menus. We particularly appreciate the on tablet and smartphone. Not to kill advertising revenue, the button is not active once the page is fully loaded for the first time.

Annotate the Web on the fly

You work on a project to several? Edge to annotate a Web page directly. Either with a text note on the side or by scribbling with the mouse or finger on a touch screen. The result can then be shared directly into OneNote software, or sent (email, tweet) as an image.

Extensions come

For now, they are not not there yet but real extensions, like Chrome or Firefox, will be incorporated in the final version by summer. With the same logic as its universal apps, Microsoft promises that the code will be easy to wear for Windows.

And for companies?

Edge does not share any code with Internet Explorer to look to the future and embrace the modern web standards. Companies can, however, install IE11 on Windows 10, to facilitate their transition. History of turning the page smoothly
