The Space City celebrates on Friday the Hubble telescope celebrates its quarter century. The craft launched in 1990 and developed by NASA has a mirror of 2.4 meters in diameter which allows it to return unpublished images of beautiful and every corner of the universe. “Hubble is the largest telescope in space, it has a scientific and aesthetic character of its considerable size,” explains Philippe Droneau, director of public in the City of space and event organizer.

Three appointments to the program

The theme park Toulouse already offers many 3D films around the telescope. To celebrate its anniversary, several events are scheduled with a lot of guests and specialists. “We wanted to pay tribute to Hubble and the astronauts and astronomers who maintained but also at NASA who built a very powerful telescope and unique,” explains Philippe Droneau.

Then go to the planetarium to discover extraordinary images of Hubble, commented live by astrophysicist Peter Von Ballmoos.

Focus on the Hubble successor

Finally, animation “Astro 30 Minutes” offers viewers to make a round-up of the European Space Astronomy, Hubble to his successor, the James Webb Space Telescope. “His ability will be ten times greater than Hubble, with a mirror of 6.80 meters in diameter that can capture images located 13 billion light-years away, near the Big Bang and the first stars,” says Philippe Droneau. Set to launch on Ariane 5, the end of 2018.

So to celebrate Hubble and know everything about the area, go to the city of space from 18.30 to 23h for a nice evening and attractive. Entry 5 euros, free for children under 15 years.
