Google secretly prepare an augmented reality headset to – Public Good

Currently, Google already offers a virtual reality helmet, basic, but very effective. This is the Cardboard, a virtual reality helmet in cardboard must insert its smartphone with YouTube and compatible applications. In France, this viewer is sold 20 euros and is compatible with most Android phones and iOS equipped with 4 to 6 inches screens.



No date known marketing

new helmet project should not require any remote connection to function properly, but simply have a place to slide an Android smartphone, like the Cardboard but much more elaborate. Obviously, no release date of this mysterious helmet has yet transpired. What is certain however is that Google will usher in fall 2016 Daydream, its new Android platform dedicated to virtual reality presented at its conference I / O in May. To illustrate his project, Google had then submitted a draft headphones with a remote control.



Evolving augmented reality

In fact, these headphones could especially help to evolve augmented reality, a bit like that today offers (only to developers at the moment) with Microsoft Hololens his glasses. For this, Google can rely on Magic Leap, a startup company in which the Mountain View (US) has already invested heavily and develops solutions spectacular augmented reality. Remember, it can scale virtual content in a real environment absolutely anywhere in their home or workplace. So far, Magic Leap has never communicated its technology nor its calendar. However, it has already filed patent for a portable device (headset or goggles) compatible with this type of 3D images to both professionals and players.
