Nissan has unveiled in Japan a Note electric equipped with technology e-Power (range extender). The vehicle borrows its powertrain with the Leaf, and adds a small block gasoline that is not used to drive the wheels but only to recharge the batteries, advertised as smaller than those of the Leaf.
Nissan unveiled this technology in the past year on the concept Gripz and now offers the Note. The principle of the extension of autonomy has already been seen on the Opel Ampera, the Chevrolet Volt and the BMW i3 Rex (Range Extender), but Nissan does not need to outlet or terminal to recharge his batteries. The small petrol engine is sufficient.
For the moment, Nissan has not yet announced the power consumption or the autonomy of the Note “e-Power”. The manufacturer shall ensure, however, that this technology allows to have the same fuel efficiency than a hybrid vehicle, while offering all the advantages (smooth driving, torque is fully available from the start…) but not the disadvantages (difficulty in finding a charging station in particular) of a 100% electric car.
