A police officer from the police Decazeville, aged 37, died early Friday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle which he sought to control the driver, in the town of Aubin, north -West department.
The interior minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, expressed “sadness and outrage” in a statement issued late afternoon. The deceased policeman “was struck by a vehicle attempting to evade controls after recognition of speeding,” said the Minister. The driver of the vehicle, registered in the Tarn, overthrew the officer in front of several police officers and firefighters were unable to resuscitate the victim, who is father of a child, according to sources close to the investigation .
“They will have to answer for their acts”
“The two occupants of the vehicle were immediately arrested and placed in custody,” the minister added stressing: “They will answer for their acts of extreme gravity to justice. ” The minister also recalled that “every day, police officers put their lives in danger to protect the French people. They deserve in this regard our respect and gratitude.” Bernard Cazeneuve sent “condolences and full support for the family of the victim and his family and to his colleagues in the Public Safety Unit Decazeville.”
