Microsoft guilty of infringement of two patents of InterDigital – Clubic.com

Within its smartphones, Microsoft had violated two patents. The multinational has lost a battle facing the company InterDigital. If Microsoft develops partnerships with Android handset manufacturers to get some royalties on registered technologies, the company is itself the target of lawsuits for its own smartphones.

The ITC, the International Trade Commission found Microsoft guilty of violating two technologies filed by InterDigital society. Specifically, these patents describe wireless technologies and used within Microsoft phones.

In charge of regulating trade in the US, the ITC has the power to ban the marketing goods infringing intellectual properties. As the judge in the case, Theodore Essex, said that the import ban Microsoft products within US borders would not go against the public interest.

The case began in 2012 and initially concerned Nokia but the Court of Appeal has reopened the case. It is now Microsoft, who bought the mobile division of Nokia in 2013, to wipe the case.

Microsoft’s side believes that these patents are articulated on industry standards.
