Google and Facebook have enabled tools that have already proven themselves in the past to inform the relatives of the missing.
While the results of the earthquake in Nepal gets heavier, many people are still missing. France seeks such to locate more than 600 of its nationals. To help find survivors, Google and Facebook have made available their tools dedicated to this kind of exceptional events.
“Google person finder”, used for the first time after the earthquake that devastated Haiti in 2010, allows anyone to search for a missing person or to add information on someone. For those who do not have access to the Internet, as two-thirds of Nepalis, searches can also be done via SMS.
After entering the person sought, a list of names appears, accompanied by a photo, address, and especially the person’s status.
By clicking on a name, you can access a detailed profile for each person, which includes practical options for loved ones, like the ability to receive an email whenever new information is available . “Google person finder” lists over 5,300 files on Nepalese disaster.
