For Microsoft CEO, women should not ask for … – Le Figaro

Satya Nadella apologized after holding controversial remarks on equal pay between men and women. “There should be more to trust the system,” he said.

How to have good karma when a woman is? Satya Nadella to, just do not ask for a salary increase. Microsoft CEO spoke Thursday at a conference on the role of women in the IT sector. When asked “what do you advise women who are afraid to ask for a raise?”, He simply said that they should abstain.

Improve the relationship with his employer

“The problem is not really asking for a raise,” said he said. “This is more confident in our system to reward your progress and your efforts at that time.” Satya Nadella added that he thought did not request an increase gave a “good karma” and could improve relationship with his employer. “This is the kind of person that I trust and I will give him more responsibility in the future,” he concluded.

These statements were immediately criticized in the room and on social networks. “I’m really horrified,” commented one user on Twitter. “Do Satya Nadella is so out of the reality of his own company to not realize how hard it is to be increased?” Asks another. In the United States, women earn on average 23% less than men. Therefore difficult for them to “trust the system” as Satya Nadella advises.

“It’s okay, I understand why women were paid less than men. They just more karma than us! “

Sexism in Silicon Valley

About Microsoft CEO spend even worse amid controversy about sexism in Silicon Valley and the technology industry in general. In large groups, inequalities are glaring: Google account, for example only 29% of women employees, a rate that falls to 17% in the category of engineers. Other businesses, such as Intel, Yahoo and HP have recently announced the composition of their employees to prove their good will as to promote diversity within their offices. This is however not the case with Microsoft.

In addition to the publication of these reports, the technology giants have launched various initiatives to encourage the hiring of women. On Wednesday, Facebook, Pinterest and Box have such partners as part of a mentoring program to guide young women in their career in the technology industry. Such operations widely reported in the media show that gender equality has become a real concern for companies image. More recently, Intel had to justify withdrawing its advertising from a site used video games forums feminists. “Intel believes in equality between men and women,” it said in a statement released by the group. “Diversity is an integral part of our strategy and our employment policy.”

In response to this criticism, as Satya Nadella somehow corrected this. In a tweet, he said that his words were not enough “articulated” and that the IT industry should be mindful of wage inequality between the sexes. “I said completely out of the question. If you think you deserve a raise, you have to ask “
