Snapchat launches sunglasses connected to make videos – Science and Future

CONNECTED. Snapchat, the messaging service in the us – become Snap Inc for the past few days – has unveiled the Spectacles or Specs, sunglasses connected. As the Google Glass, they are equipped with a mini-camera embedded in the frame. But the comparison stops there. The Specs look like sunglasses classic, with a shape and three colors trendy, when the Google Glass seemed to have been designed by an orthopedic surgeon. They only cost a 130 dollars compared to 1500 for the "prostheses" of Google. Finally, they have only a single function, simple and effective : make short videos (up to 30 seconds) to post on Snapchat.

The clip, directly sent on Snapchat

For this, nothing more simple. Simply press a button located on the top of the left branch to trigger recording of a video of 10 seconds (up to 30 seconds by pressing twice). A further press stops the recording.

The clip is sent on Snapchat by the smartphone which the glasses are connected by wifi or Bluetooth. On the app, the video appears in a new circular format but resumes with a look full-screen classic when it is viewed on other media, such as YouTube.

VISION. The optics of the camera has an angle of 115°, large enough to reproduce approximately human vision. To avoid nasty surprises and in particular the videos stolen, a small light illuminates on the upper left edge of the frame, to indicate that a recording is in progress. The glasses stand in a case that not only protects, but also recharge automatically, probably by induction. The case therefore functions as an external battery that should be recharged regularly.

The Shows should be available this fall. Snap does definitely not revolutionize the world with his sunglasses connected, but with a reasonable price, easy to use and look nice they should carve out a nice success on the occasion of the Christmas festivities. On the condition that it be beautiful…
