Snapchat will launch its own glasses connected, Entertainment – Le Figaro

These sunglasses, equipped with two mini cameras, can capture movies of 10 seconds, transferable on the application.

Snapchat tackles the difficult market of glasses connected. The californian start-up, which has just been renamed Snap, Inc., has unveiled this weekend the upcoming launch of Spectacles, sun glasses equipped with mini cameras. Sold $ 130 and available in three colors (black, blue, red), these plastic glasses make a simple pressure on the branches, to take videos of 10 seconds. The maximum duration of a “Snap”.

These mini-cameras can capture images up to 115°, allowing to reproduce the angle of view of the human eye. “While you record with your glasses, your hands are free for petting your dog, take a baby in your arms or make a mosh pit in a concert,” says the Wall Street Journal Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snapchat. What offer videos even more immersive, as can already make a GoPro -discretion.

The captured images are transferred to the application Snapchat via a WiFi connection or Bluetooth. They will land in the tab “Memories”, which allows you to save “snaps” to (re)share it later with his community. No launch date has been announced. Snapchat warns, however, that the distribution will be limited.

Remains to see the reception that will receive these glasses. Hard not to keep in memory the dismal failure of Google Glass. The glasses connected to Google, sold $ 1500, are become, in spite of a bogeyman for the anti-Silicon Valley. In 2014, the number of their bearers are made of a mauling in San Francisco, while several groups of residents were protesting against the soaring prices of real estate caused by the massive arrival of employees of the giants of the tech. But they found a real problem of protection of privacy. Impossible to know if a wearer of glasses connected is in train or not to film incognito what’s happening around him. Owners of Google Glass are thus made to break their glasses by their neighbors of the bar. The Google Glass has also been banned in several professional events. In the aftermath, Google has had to take out a guide of good conduct from its users.

what prompt Snapchat to be cautious. “We’re not going to launch this product beating the drum,” says Evan Spiegel. The distribution should be done at the dropper. “We’ll observe how it is received by the public, and how it integrates, or not, to their life”. For the CEO of Snapchat, Shows is nothing more than a fun gadget.
