The Tribunal de Grande Instance in Paris has just order the blocking of illegal download site Torrent 411 (or T411) by ISPs, the French Internet Service Providers. This is the “ Civil Society of Phonographic Producers” , the SCPP, which represents the music industry in France and fight against piracy, which was announced in a brief statement. The decision was made to fight against piracy of musical, but also against those of series and films. Even if for the moment we do not know exactly what will be put in place to block access to T411, it is likely that access to the site’s domain name is blocked by the ISP.
A measure that will obviously not worrying for users with a minimum of knowledge that can circumvent the rules of the blockage. The others will not be able to access their source of torrents and have to find other ways to achieve their contents. Illegal download site has it, apparently the means of subsistence, since it is likely hosted abroad and may change a domain name now, as has been the case in late February, 2015.
So, this ruling seems mostly symbolic. It is nevertheless indicative of a trend, since the fight against illegal downloading is growing more and more. Note that registered users will not directly threatened. They may therefore turn to legal platforms like Netflix or iTunes.
