The Mozilla Foundation today announced the launch of a new application on iOS. Focus by Firefox , an ad blocker
9 iOS, Apple introduced new APIs named Content Blocking . This development brick was designed to allow developers to offer third-party plugins in Safari browser to accelerate the display of Web pages by sacrificing some content. This can be images, videos, scripts, cookies and of course advertisements.
They are also pub blockers that have the wind in their sails on iOS since many publishers 9 unveiled turn to their applications whether AdBlock Plus, 1Blocker, Crystal, Purify, Adamant, or Blockbear. Mozilla perceives an opportunity and announced in turn Focus by Firefox .
On its official blog, the foundation says Focus by Firefox block certain categories of trackers in particular, those used by advertising, community networks or for analytical tools. Focus also serves to block Web Fonts. Everything for a faster display of web pages while maximizing the degree of privacy.
Mozilla says that Focus by Firefox is based on the list of Disconnect.me. The latter have the advantage of being relatively transparent with the editor and more clearly explaining why his website is on the list of those whose trackers should be blocked. Disconnect.me would be more favorable to create communications with publishers by allowing them to make any changes.
Finally the foundation adds that its application should be optimized over time, including to better dissociate the needs of mobile users wishing to ensure their privacy and others who want more truly faster surfing on mobile.
Ironically, Focus by Firefox is for … Safari. To activate it, it will go in the iOS settings and select those related to Apple’s browser.
