The happy new year get less and less per SMS – ITespresso.fr

Even Free Mobile is no longer an exception to the reduction in the volume of SMS sent in France to wish the good year.

In 2015, as in 2016, the operator had provided figures on the rise, contrasting with the general decline of sms in the competitors Orange, SFR and Bouygues Telecom.

in 2017, the observation is unanimous in the “gang of four” : the failover vows to other channels of communication accelerates.

the head of the list, the MMS, whose progress goes hand in hand with the growth of equipment rate in smartphones and packages 4G : Orange has identified, after the first elements to be relayed by the AFP, 7.1 million between December 31, to 21: and the 1st January at 2 h to A volume increase of 8,63 % year-on-year.

the Same trend at Bouygues Telecom, which count is 3.39 million (+ 13,5 %), while over the same time period, the number of SMS messages sent decreased by 9.7 % (45 million).

The decline is less marked in Orange (- 6 %, 94.9 million SMS messages) and Free Mobile (- 4 % to 60 million).

Remains a question mark on the social networks and instant messaging services. The operators shall report, obviously, little on this topic. We shall remain, in the field, a statistic of Bouygues Telecom, which claims that 60 % of all messages sent on 31 December on its network in France have been by 4G.

SFR had insisted, last year, on this same aspect, communicating on a 20% increase of traffic in 4G. The group company Altice announced, at the same time, an increase of 2 % of its volume of MMS (8.7 million), compared with 88 million SMS messages (- 5 %).

The same trend was drawn in Orange, with 101 million SMS messages (- 2.5 %) and 6.5 million MMS (up 16.7 %) ; while the meter SMS Free Mobile was still in the green (+ 10 %, to 62.7 million between 21 h and 2 h).

The passage in 2015 had marked the first overall decline in the volume of SMS among the main operators, with approximately 10% in SFR (who had not communicated specific value ) and – 14% for Orange… despite a + 17,7 % in Free Mobile.
