Facebook F8 conference service ecosystem – ZDNet France

Facebook has come a long way since its inception in marching band. If Zuckerberg, bundled up in his eternal gray shirt gives the impression that he had not changed a bit in 10 years, however its creation has largely evolved and everyone, even he knows that. And the figures exhibited at the conference do not lie: 1.4 billion for Facebook users, certainly, but also expect 300 million to Instagram, 700 million for Whatsapp for both Groups and 600 million users for Messenger.

Around these applications, a scale ecosystem has developed, “We have donated $ 8 billion to community developers in the last 5 years, we have allowed 3.5 billion of application installations through our services last year. “This is more than a simple blue social network driven by a visionary teenager, Facebook seems to now play the card of maturity.

Rock’n roll is over

No surprise therefore to see land at this conference ThreatExchange considerations on the platform, recently launched Facebook and to bring together developers to exchange information on the security and malware. “On this subject, unfolds slowly, but soon we will open ourselves to new developers. “Even attitude to bug fixes and assistance: finished the famous” Move Fast and Break Things “Facebook has since last year revised its slogan” Move fast with stable infrastructure. “Less sexy but Facebook will continue on this path. Thus, the company is committed to resolving 90% of bugs reported by developers in less than 30 days, a promise that is added to the rule that the major bugs will be corrected judged within 48 hours after notification. And there certainly Messenger, but the subject has been widely discussed by our bloggers.

Not surprisingly, Facebook has used the conference to announce enhancements to its online statistics service, which allows to trace key figures to application developers. In unison of competition, Facebook will unveil its vis-à-vis plans of the Internet of Things, with a dedicated SDK to develop applications to connected objects based on Parse a cloud platform initially intended the mobile application development. Two versions will be offered by Facebook, one to the Arduino and another focused on Linux.

The Oculus in hidden asset

Rest of the Oculus Rift. In 2014, Facebook has bought to the surprise of the company behind the virtual reality helmet, originally funded on Kickstarter. If on the redemption, a part of the community was concerned to see a behemoth like Facebook get in on the project, it is clear that the company remains surprisingly silent on the field of VR. Only concession made during the conference: interactive videos 360 are now handled by Facebook. It is certainly more attractive than vacation photos, but the realization of these videos requires some investment in equipment which may limit the scope of this option to a niche audience.

“We have made a turning point, a simple service to a family of applications” and recalls Mark Zuckerberg. Turning officially recorded, Facebook is now seeking to heal its partners and consolidating its support.
