Kobo Glo HD: the equivalent of the Kindle Travel 33% cheaper – Clubic

The Reader Kobo Glo HD direct competition with Kindle Travel but relies on its availability in France and its lower price by a third.

Rakuten introduced the new flagship of its e-book readers The Kobo Glo HD. One year after the Kobo Aura HD and six months after the Kindle Travel, Canadian bookseller bought by the equivalent of Amazon Japan finally returns to the beautiful book paperback, while remaining high end.

The same E Ink screen Carta 6 inches and 1440 x 1080 pixels than the Kindle Travel

The new Kobo reading light returns of 6.8 inches, a size reserved for a few high-end models, the eternal 6 inches. But the e-ink screen keeps a high definition, 1448 x 1072 pixels in this case, for a resolution increased to 300 pixels per inch, the standard printing resolution. He in turn adopts the latest generation E Ink screen Carta, and he renewed the ComfortLight side lighting. In short, it is the same screen as the Kindle from Amazon Voyage.

A lower price by a third and a more open platform

But the Kobo Glo HD stands still the flagship product from Amazon for two reasons. To begin, put on a much lower price, since it will be sold $ 130 in the United States, against $ 200, from 1 May It will incidentally marketed in France, unlike its competitor, from 22 May and from June 1, in other European countries. The main consideration in relation to the Kindle Travel, is the lack of dedicated controls to the page change, Kobo entirely on its touch screen, less intuitive.

In addition, although the Kobo bookstore has recourse to DRM digital locks, the brand boasts the opening of its platform, which supports the ePub standard 3. The user can easily transfer books purchased in various shops. In this spirit, the reading light offers multiple customization options, with 11 fonts in 48 sizes.

The Kobo Glo HD is also a standard reading light, with a 1 GHz processor, 4 GB of internal memory (enough to store thousands of books), Wi-Fi, and a battery giving it a range of more than a month.
