The unexpected success of the Raspberry card seems to have sharpened the lusts. A Kickstarter campaign has emerged around the CHIP project, which offers a nano computer from 9 dollars, or three times less than the Raspberry Pi remains highly competitive, which starts at about 25 euros at retailers.
This project was presented on Kickstarter early May and has already raised well above its initial target of $ 50,000. The developers plan to deliver the first models in early 2016, but early support of the project in September will have the “alpha” version of the prototype.
For the price, not worth the wait breathtaking performance, but can boast CHIP honorable specifications: a processor built by Allwinner and clocked at 1GHz, 512MB of DDR3 RAM, and 4GB of storage are proposed. The model also will carry a wireless card and Bluetooth as well as a monitor output, which can be adapted to a VGA or HDMI display via a dedicated adapter. The whole is mounted on a 60mm board by 40mm.
The machine will work with an operating system based on Debian, delivered with the device, and stays true to the philosophy of the Free: project holders promise to be fully open source and propose to community recovery plans and designs of the machine freely. The company says on its Kickstarter page have relied on economies of scale from its partners in order to lower the cost of a maximum of components.
If the machine is offered from 9 dollars, more expensive versions are planned: count and $ 19 to retrieve a CHIP with a VGA adapter, an HDMI adapter for 24 and finally for 49 dollars, PocketC.HIP, who is accompanied by a 720p screen 4 3 inches and a keyboard and whose design clearly eyeing to lovers of mobile games.
The fundraising broke records and culminates today at 691,000 dollars on 50,000 requested, we can expect a success comparable to that of the Raspberry Pi, despite lower face features the top model Raspberry Foundation, the Pi 2.
