Everybody knows Firefox, just under Thuderbird the mail client from the Mozilla Foundation, launched in 2003. Used by 10 million people, including 770,000 in France, the application is now in decline, worse Mozilla is about to stop its development and / or return the product to another organization.
In competition with Web clients such as Google’s Gmail or Microsoft’s Outlook.com, strategic shift and technology with the development of Firefox, Thunderbird could therefore soon bow, Mozilla preferring to concentrate all its efforts on the Firefox browser which also experiencing some difficulties to compete, including Chrome.
This project abandonment is nevertheless not a surprise. It’s been a long time (three years) that Mozilla has not updated its email client, the developer community is mobilized on the red panda. The application has been no official and functional developments.

But the foundation did not mean to kill it. The idea would be to entrust the baby to a partner or other organization able to resume its development. Mark Surman, its Executive Director, has even found a buyer, but no details filtered.
