With Macron law, Skype will eventually be look … – Generation NT

This is a divisive issue several years between ARCEP and the mail service provider and VoIP call Skype . The regulator has repeatedly asked him to take the operator status because of its activities, the company never intended to do.

logo_skype So far it was to the companies themselves to declare, allowing Skype to evade the issue. But with the new provisions of the Law Macron that strengthen the powers of the telecom regulator, the situation could change.

Les Echos points out that ARCEP now through an amendment would have the possibility to force the companies involved in communications activities to take operator status.

This change of status would impose new obligations, including those to ensure emergency calls but also to implement legal interception means conversations about legal request.

The question of tapping Skype was already mentioned it a few years ago, this time to instigation of its owner Microsoft , then suspected of providing access to US intelligence services.

If ARCEP has his way, the large ears of French services will also have a Listener service. But other similar services, such as WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger could be the same statements and similar obligations.
