Apple will develop a fuel cell to maximize the life of Mac and iPhone – Eco News .com

This is one of the most recurrent topics when it comes to our daily electronic equipment: autonomy. This is certainly what everyone talks about and this criterion has even become a criterion on which more and more consumers base their choice before opting for a smartphone or a specific computer. The battery may issue presented a voltage of 2 volts and withstand 7500 charge cycles, first with aluminum. Recall that traditional batteries “hold” approximately 1000 cycles.

Fuel Battery A patent for Mac ever more autonomous

The American firm has filed a patent for a new technology of fuel plunders using hydrogen and according to the same sources, to power a MacBook several days to several weeks in some cases. This is an ad that is quick to go around social networks, as it demonstrates that the brand Apple continues to work on the independence of its aircraft to maintain its rank fixture in the world of technology communication.

Many observers say already that these new fuel cells can even equip the iPhone, by drastically increasing the autonomy to change user habits, often too dependent on electrical outlets, especially Travelling. With autonomy revised upwards, Apple can conquer a whole new market, with customers who had not yet passed the smartphone because of their limited range.

Google also working on batteries fuel that now constitute the weak point of our connected devices through its laboratory Google X. Google would work in secret for two years on this technology.

What impact on the environment?

Last but not least on this new patent: the potential impact of these fuel cells on the environment in case of mass production. This is a legitimate concern, at a time when all means must be deployed to an environmentally responsible industry.

A fuel cell is what?

A battery is a fuel cell in which the production of electricity is effected by oxidation at an electrode of a reducing fuel (e.g. hydrogen gas) coupled to the reduction on the other electrode of an oxidant, such as oxygen air. The hydrogen oxidation reaction is accelerated by a catalyst which is typically platinum. If other combinations are possible, the most commonly studied and used is the battery-oxygen battery or dihydrogen dihydrogen air.

The United States developed many projects supported by the government, sometimes presented as one of the major solutions against global warming. In France, ADEME, EDF and the CEA have installed a “FUEL CELL” network (PACo) June 25, 1999 led by Catherine Ronge, Director R & amp; D Air Liquide and Roger Ballay, deputy director of research at EDF, co-hosted by ADEME and the Atomic Energy Commission (CEA). This network had the mission to accelerate research on fuel cell by identifying technological barriers, to lead the scientific community around a center of expertise that could enhance and disseminate the advances in research, develop partnerships public-private and forward thinking on the development of these techniques.
