You have probably never seen the Milky Way that way. A gigantic photograph of the galaxy has been posted on the internet. This is a collection of 268 shots made by scientists at the University of Bochum Rurh who photographed the sky in the Atacama Desert, Chile. The result is striking because this mosaic shows 46 billion pixels and the file that stores the work weighs 194 GB. According to CNET is the greatest image space ever created. Last year, the “Milky Way” was illustrated with 20 billion pixels.
On the site where the Milky Way can be seen, the user has all the freedom to zoom in and navigate middle of this infinite stars on. Some color variations can also be spotted. This multitude of pixels can take more or less time to be loaded with perfect clarity, depending on the quality of the connection.
With this long-term work, astrophysicists have discovered 50,000 new variable stars, including their characteristic is to vary brightness. The results of this study were presented last July in a scientific journal.
