Living Book – The first and costly Microsoft convertible PC – ZDNet France

Microsoft’s press conference on its new terminals booked quite a few surprises. With one exception. Despite a change of course, abandoning the slogan “devices and services”, the firm does not disengage equipment

She even opened the contrary, a new product line. Surface Book. As with Surface Pro, it is not to enter into direct competition with computer manufacturers, customers and partners for Windows.

The aim is to position Windows 10 as an OS suitable for multiple uses and equipment, and guide the market. Convertible PCs are growing? While Microsoft launches Surface Book, a 2-in-1, that is to say a machine with a detachable screen that turns into a 13.5-inch tablet. The tablet is connected to the base, Surface Book becomes a laptop.

The new terminal Microsoft presents itself as a convertible of 700 grams with embedded graphics processor and USB ports in the keyboard dock – also compatible with Surface Pro 4.

On the side of Microsoft, it shows modest in claiming “PC thinnest and most powerful ever created.” Nothing less. During his presentation, Microsoft also said its new product was twice as powerful as a MacBook Pro. The opponent is appointed. The price confirms this. The entry-level version, so to speak, comes with 128 GB SSD, a Core i5 and 8 GB RAM processor

The first prize for Living Book:. 1499 dollars (1649 euros in France) and up to 2699 dollars (512 GB SSD, 16 GB RAM, Core i7 and Nvidia GPUs). An amount that will reassure other manufacturers since Microsoft should not compete too frontally on the amount of the convertible segment.

Living Book is for pre-order in the US for marketing planned for the end of the month. In France, it will be later. The French subsidiary of the company announces a launch in the first quarter 2016.
